Goal

It Started With a Vision

In 2002, Cletus Raber moved from Jamesport, Missouri to Macy, Indiana with a dream of opening a discount grocery store. After buying property in Northern Miami County, just north of the small town of Gilead, Cletus built the first Raber's store. The store's first day open for business was October 18, 2002.

Adding the Next Store

In 2017, Cletus' son Larry Raber and son-in-law Elmer Schwartz bought shares of the company with the vision of growing the company to multiple locations. In the fall of 2017, they purchased the old Dollar General building in Mentone, Indiana. After renovating the building, the store opened for business in March 2018. Although smaller in size than the Macy location, this store carries a wide variety of items and is a local favorite. In January 2022, Marcus Yoder, another son-in-law, also bought into the company.

Expanding the Raber Brand

With the added ownership, Cletus, Larry, and his son-in-laws decided to purchase Rabers Discount Grocery in Wolcottville, Indiana from Cletus' brother Jerry Raber. In January of 2022, the Wolcottville store was closed for a week and reset to match the system used at other the other two locations. It opened for business the second week of January 2022. This latest addition will supply more categories of items in the near future!

The entire store has been completely reset, and it appeared to be better stocked than we had ever seen! Groceries, HBA, and household goods were all very well stocked with a huge variety. But the best change we noticed was the major price reductions on many items!
